A Humble Marriage

by Richard Biddle

shared cherries from a paper-bag

talking about talking about talking

something in the religion of her eyes

took off his watch and destroyed time

borrowed money bought their drinks

shivered warmth into each other

days hitching and hatching plans

thumbed pages turned together

at home in no house

they traversed pitfalls and thresholds

traveling light

thunder and lightning

fuck-fighting with weathered-hearts

breeding poltergeists

inciting a riot of insight

in every mirror they smashed
