Wednesday 7th August

Hiya!

It’s journal time again and unfortunately I am back home from a lovely holiday in Spain visiting my Mother who lives in Mazarron close to Murcia.

Before my visit I was told that there is a residing artist at Port Mazarron who I decided to visit whilst there. His name is Enrique Olivares and he was most welcoming. He has a bar called “Museo Olivares” which is full to the brim with his abstract pictures. I really liked his artwork and he allowed me to take some photos which I thought I would share with you.

You can also see more of his art on his Facebook page Museo Olivares

Due to the language barrier I couldn’t tell him that I write this journal, but I will be attempting to send this to him translated into Spanish. We did manage to communicate a little via my Mother and he has invited me to exhibit some of my pictures there in a few months time. This of course will mean that I will have to return there. Ah! What a chore!……Not!
So I am very happy about that indeed 🙂

Back to here and now. I am focusing on my next collaboration with the lovely poet Nat Hall which will be featured on here Wednesday 14th August. Nat has yet again excelled with her poem, so I am forming ideas for my picture and I plan to paint it very soon.

I also mentioned in my last journal that I am planning a visit to Margate very soon. I am hoping to connect with some of the residing artists there which I am looking forward to. I am hoping to schedule the visit sometime in September, so I will keep you posted on my progress.

Well that is my news for now. I hope you like Enrique’s pictures as much as I do.

Until next time.

Bye bye,

Lili X

Wednesday 10th July

” As usual the last two weeks have flown by, but this time, in a haze of sunshine!

I have finished 0511 which I decided to save to share on here. I am quite pleased with it, as the fireworks really stick out. I used thick white acrylic for them and painted them over with the uv paint. It is lovely when an experiment turns out satisfactorily!

I also completed my collaborative picture with the lovely poet Nat Hall. I expect you can now understand why I described her poem called ‘Prelude’ as beautiful! She is certainly very talented. My picture included some gold, which unfortunately didn’t show up under the UV light. It was quite a busy picture with moons, and dancing neons, and a red haze which represented the static of the music. The gold was supposed to represent the angels, but never mind, I guess that when the angels are around us, we don’t always see them.

I have decided that I am going to take on a more minimal approach to my painting. I will share some with you when they are finished.
>>>>>
This is my last journal before I go on holiday to Spain. I have family there and they have told me that there is an artist that sells his pictures in a bar in Port Mazarron which is literally a 10 minute walk from where I will be staying. I am going to go to see his pictures and if he will let me I will take some photos to show you.
>>>>
Also, with the theme of travel, I have a very dear friend who lives in Margate that I am going to visit on my return from Spain. Margate has a very exciting emerging art scene, so it will be good to connect with other artists whilst I am there, and to visit some galleries and The Turner Contemporary. I have been to TC once before on a previous visit and they were exhibiting some work by Tracey Emin. I found her art very emotional. I think she had done her art for the exhibition when she had split up with a partner, and I left feeling very sad for her. I hope she is feeling happier now!”
>>>
I will keep you updated on my next visit, and hopefully share some photos with you.
>>>
Anyway, time for me to go and I will catch up with you again on my return from Sunny Spain!

 Adios,

Wednesday 26th June

“Yay it’s journal time!

I haven’t been up to too much in the last couple of weeks really. I am in the process of painting another picture called 0511, as it looks like fireworks. I have taken a sneak preview picture to show you. The white firework bits are very raised on the canvas, so some aren’t quite dry yet to paint over. I am hoping that they will glow nicely. I will post the finished piece lit up by the UV light on my twitter account in the next couple of days @LiliMorganArt and also in my next journal.
>>>>>>>

I am also working on my collaboration with Nat Hall that will be featured on ArtiPeeps on Wednesday 3rd July. I can only tell you that there is red, gold and perhaps a moon involved! Ohhhhhh!!! 😉
>>>>
I also bought a blank puzzle today, which I thought would look rather nice painted on and framed. I will post a picture of it once it is completed.
>>>>
I have been researching quite a bit over the last couple of weeks, as I have a few other future ideas where to go with my UV art. I am going on holiday in July, so that will also be an ideal time to brainstorm whilst on the beach!
>>>>
Things are coming together nicely and I have also confirmed my involvement in the Transformations Poetry collaboration, which is going to be part of an exhibition in Norfolk in 2014 and also be turned into a book. The theme is Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses. More details of that as and when I find out.
>>>>
So on that fine note I shall bid you farewell. Oh, and here is another one of my pictures lit up by the UV light! This one is called Pink Rock!

“Well here it is. Time to reveal the little twist to my art work. If you haven’t guessed already then, with no further ado…..

The neons that I paint with are actually neon UV paint. They glow under a flourescent UV blacklight! This means that all my pictures are two in one.

I have taken photos of Galaxy 14, Twisted Heart and Atomic number 10  to show you how different the pictures look with and without the UV light. Personally, I like them best with the UV lighting as they glow so brightly.

I haven’t seen many other artists use this concept, and my art is unique in the fact that I use these paints in every one of my pictures.
 >>>>
I love that they can all be seen in a completely different light! Literally!
 >>>>
I am currently working on a few more pictures (one being my collaboration with the lovely poet Nat Hall). Once these are finished, then I will be sending my portfolio out. I am having a few problems with my internet at the moment, but it should be completed very soon including my new pictures.
 >>>>
Anyway, I wanted to share my little twist  with ArtiPeeps first. I hope you like them!

Wednesday 29th May

“I really don’t know where the time goes. Another fortnight has passed and it’s journal time!

My portfolio isn’t ready yet. I think I may do a few more pictures for it as well. I am very critical of my work and I only want to include the pictures that I really like. I presume that is normal for other artists? I am also a bit to attached to them, which I really need to get over. I wonder if other artists feel the same way about their work?
>>>
I am currently trawling through all of my contacts to get ready to send my portfolio out. So the time is now really close. I feel a bit nervous and I hope that I will get a good response. It is a big step into the unknown. Ohhh…exciting but also scary!!
>>>>
I suppose it is a bit more daunting as I have not had any formal training (apart from an art qualification from back in the day at school). Everything I do just comes from the heart..(Oh do pass me the bucket, and cue the violins!!)
>>>
I am sure it will be fine. Everyone I have encountered on my journey so far, has been incredibly kind and helpful, and I expect that will follow through.
>>>
I am currently working on my collaboration with the lovely poet, Nat Hall and I have some great ideas. I think this picture may include normal acrylics, as well as the neons. (They can do their own little collaboration within the picture!). I am thinking a lot about moons at the moment!
>>>
So now it is the countdown to my next journal to officially showcase my work in it’s complete entire form. As I was hoping to reveal it this week and I haven’t been able to, I will give you a little clue:
>>>
“The neons like to get dressed up at night!”
>>>
You may guess from that, or you may think I have totally lost the plot! (Haha! I am never quite too far from the latter anyway!).
>>>
Well there it is. All official. No turning back. My next journal will be my most exciting (well for me anyway!). The neon’s and my little secret will be aired in public for all to see.
>>>
I had best get on with it then hadn’t I? I have a fair bit to do in the next couple of weeks and there is no time like the present. (She says sounding soo thoroughly British! No room for the nerves. Just get on with it woman!)
>>>
So on that note…..This very British bag of nerves is off to get on with it!”
>>>>>>>
Have a great fortnight all!…
>>>
 (So not scared!)
>>>
Until my next journal! ….

Wednesday 15th May

Here we are again and things are looking good.

I have finally bought myself a lovely SLR camera and it is amazing! It may take a little while for me to work it out, as I am a total technophobe and I still haven’t worked out how to even fix the strap onto it yet! Never mind, I will certainly get there with it all very soon. I have managed to take a couple of photos and the quality is amazing! This means that I can start to build my portfolio now and get pictures done of my work to make some prints. Ohhh get me!!!…..;-)

I have had a bit of a disaster with one of my paintings. I decided to use spray paint instead of acrylic paint as the base. I also used lots of layers with the neons. Unfortunately, the neons no likie!! They totally cracked up! (Literally!). I have included a picture of the painting whilst it was still wet, and then when the neons dried and decided to misbehave! I was really happy with the painting as it was when it was drying, but I quite like it a bit cracked. It makes it very different. So I have decided the picture is going to stay, aptly named “Cracked Up”.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Cracked Up! Before Crack

Cracked Up! Before Crack

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Aha!..As @Simon Cowell once tweeted, “Optimism rules!”…..

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Cracked Up! After Crack

Cracked Up! After Crack

So that is a definite “fail” for the naughty neons then!!

🙂

My collaboration with the lovely Nat Hall is now in production. Nat has written the most beautiful poem, which will inspire me to do a painting. I cannot tell you how beautiful the poem is. I just hope my painting will be able to do it the justice it deserves! The fruits of our collaboration will be put out on Wednesday 3rd July, so I will keep you posted with our progress.

I have also been asked today to do another collaboration, which of course I agreed to do. I will let you know more about this once I have more details. It is all very exciting stuff!

I am going to take the next couple of weeks to try to work out my camera, and also to start to build my portfolio. If this all goes without a hitch then I will (hopefully) be able to reveal my twist to my work. I need my portfolio done first though!

So that’s it from me for another fortnight then. Hopefully there will be VERY exciting news next time. Fingers crossed!!

Until then,

Take care,

Love Lili X

Wednesday 1st May

“Well it’s that time again and it looks like things are going to start moving for me at a less tortoise pace very soon!

Firstly I am going to finally be able to purchase a lovely SLR camera in the next week or two. This is really important for me because it means that I will be able to start to build a portfolio of my pictures. Once I have done that, then I can start approaching various people with my art. It also means that I can get some prints done as well!

Another great thing about having my portfolio done,  is that I will be able to finally reveal the little twist to my art! At last, the real essence of my work will be out there! So I think that it will probably be about a month’s time! I simply can’t wait!

I also have some more good news. I have someone interested in looking into producing my prints on quite a large scale, which is mega fabulous! They have asked me to get back to them in a few weeks, so the SLR camera and portfolio are really really important. It isn’t a definite project, but I am very flattered that they like my art enough to consider this. I will keep you posted in my future journals, and I will hopefully be able to tell you a bit more about it all if it goes ahead!

I am also going to be collaborating with a lovely poet called Nat Hall. Nat kindly wrote a poem inspired by my art, when I was a visitorpeep with ArtiPeeps which I absolutely loved. All of the poetry that was written by all of the poets really touched me. You can find Nat’s poem here and the others here. This time Nat will be writing a poem and I will then do a painting inspired by her poetry. I cannot wait and I am thinking of using the neons on quite a big canvas for this!

It is great that things are moving in the right direction. I don’t take anything for granted, so every little good thing that happens, always puts a big smile on my face! In fact I am smiling right now 🙂

I have included two pictures called Squiggle It and Ghoul La La! Squiggle It was the very first picture I ever did with the neons so it has a special place in my heart! For some reason Ghoul La La! reminds me of ghosts and bats in the woods. It wasn’t really aimed to be like that it was just the way it turned out at the time! Spooky!

Well it is now time for me to bid you farewell for another two weeks. I am so thrilled that things are starting to move, and I am already looking forward to my next instalment, which I hope will bring more great news!”

Until then bye bye,

Lili X
