.

none shall sleep

by Nat Hall

.

below the drapes of green & gold,
below the thirsty Hunter’s moon,
………..below the stars’ dancing eyelids;

above the turmoil of each tide,
above that thin layer of mist,
………..above the edge of your canvas –

.
in between my eyes & your shore,
in between now and Aquilla,
………..in between sheets of the north wind,
………………………………………………………..we shall not sleep

.
below blotched dots of question marks,
above my doubt-rocking silence,
………………….in between words we never said

.
en-dessous des feuilles d’érable,
en-dessus des giffles du sel,
…………………entre les dentelles du désir,

.
………………………………………………nous ne nous endormirons pas
………mais dans la chaleur de septembre,
dans l’azur de ton crépuscule,
regarde-moi le coeur en face et
dis-moi qu’on y fait
son lit.

FreeSpace #2 Nat Hall and Lili Morgan: On the theme of ‘Music’

14 Aug

Here’s the second of 3 ‘FreeSpace’ Collaborations put together by poet Nat Hall and artist Lili Morgan inspired by the theme of  ‘Music’.  Nat’s poem was passed to Lili to provide her with the inspiration for her painting below. We hope you enjoy it!

In memoriam, Giuseppe Verdi*

L’homme qui plantait des notes

(The Man Who Planted Notes)

Feel dawn.

.
In between two juniper trees,
lingering mist & wild fennel,
I hear songbirds pronounce his name.
Songthrush,
la grive musicienne,
found in a pine a pedestal
to celebrate the musician – Melodious,
Orphean, warblers in olive groves in need of a maestro.

.
Breathe in sunrise.

.
On every hill,
where shepherds drive ash-coloured herds to
the sound of footsteps & fifres*,
ascending scent of morning dew connects his dreams to land & thyme.
Hear the wingbeat of the gerfaut*
inside still rows of lavender,
Mistral waking
between
roof tiles & Mourre Nègre*

.
where evergreen oaks through
their leaves echo the song of hidden streams,
and acorns shape notes on
score sheets.

.
La force du destin*,

.
Ugolin’s love* behind shutters,
…………the great symphony has begun.

Wednesday 7th August

Hiya!

It’s journal time again and unfortunately I am back home from a lovely holiday in Spain visiting my Mother who lives in Mazarron close to Murcia.

Before my visit I was told that there is a residing artist at Port Mazarron who I decided to visit whilst there. His name is Enrique Olivares and he was most welcoming. He has a bar called “Museo Olivares” which is full to the brim with his abstract pictures. I really liked his artwork and he allowed me to take some photos which I thought I would share with you.

You can also see more of his art on his Facebook page Museo Olivares

Due to the language barrier I couldn’t tell him that I write this journal, but I will be attempting to send this to him translated into Spanish. We did manage to communicate a little via my Mother and he has invited me to exhibit some of my pictures there in a few months time. This of course will mean that I will have to return there. Ah! What a chore!……Not!
So I am very happy about that indeed 🙂

Back to here and now. I am focusing on my next collaboration with the lovely poet Nat Hall which will be featured on here Wednesday 14th August. Nat has yet again excelled with her poem, so I am forming ideas for my picture and I plan to paint it very soon.

I also mentioned in my last journal that I am planning a visit to Margate very soon. I am hoping to connect with some of the residing artists there which I am looking forward to. I am hoping to schedule the visit sometime in September, so I will keep you posted on my progress.

Well that is my news for now. I hope you like Enrique’s pictures as much as I do.

Until next time.

Bye bye,

Lili X

Wednesday 10th July

” As usual the last two weeks have flown by, but this time, in a haze of sunshine!

I have finished 0511 which I decided to save to share on here. I am quite pleased with it, as the fireworks really stick out. I used thick white acrylic for them and painted them over with the uv paint. It is lovely when an experiment turns out satisfactorily!

I also completed my collaborative picture with the lovely poet Nat Hall. I expect you can now understand why I described her poem called ‘Prelude’ as beautiful! She is certainly very talented. My picture included some gold, which unfortunately didn’t show up under the UV light. It was quite a busy picture with moons, and dancing neons, and a red haze which represented the static of the music. The gold was supposed to represent the angels, but never mind, I guess that when the angels are around us, we don’t always see them.

I have decided that I am going to take on a more minimal approach to my painting. I will share some with you when they are finished.
>>>>>
This is my last journal before I go on holiday to Spain. I have family there and they have told me that there is an artist that sells his pictures in a bar in Port Mazarron which is literally a 10 minute walk from where I will be staying. I am going to go to see his pictures and if he will let me I will take some photos to show you.
>>>>
Also, with the theme of travel, I have a very dear friend who lives in Margate that I am going to visit on my return from Spain. Margate has a very exciting emerging art scene, so it will be good to connect with other artists whilst I am there, and to visit some galleries and The Turner Contemporary. I have been to TC once before on a previous visit and they were exhibiting some work by Tracey Emin. I found her art very emotional. I think she had done her art for the exhibition when she had split up with a partner, and I left feeling very sad for her. I hope she is feeling happier now!”
>>>
I will keep you updated on my next visit, and hopefully share some photos with you.
>>>
Anyway, time for me to go and I will catch up with you again on my return from Sunny Spain!

 Adios,
Lili X

Wednesday 26th June

“Yay it’s journal time!

I haven’t been up to too much in the last couple of weeks really. I am in the process of painting another picture called 0511, as it looks like fireworks. I have taken a sneak preview picture to show you. The white firework bits are very raised on the canvas, so some aren’t quite dry yet to paint over. I am hoping that they will glow nicely. I will post the finished piece lit up by the UV light on my twitter account in the next couple of days @LiliMorganArt and also in my next journal.

I am also working on my collaboration with Nat Hall that will be featured on ArtiPeeps on Wednesday 3rd July. I can only tell you that there is red, gold and perhaps a moon involved! Ohhhhhh!!! 😉
>>>>
I also bought a blank puzzle today, which I thought would look rather nice painted on and framed. I will post a picture of it once it is completed.
>>>>
I have been researching quite a bit over the last couple of weeks, as I have a few other future ideas where to go with my UV art. I am going on holiday in July, so that will also be an ideal time to brainstorm whilst on the beach!
>>>>
Things are coming together nicely and I have also confirmed my involvement in the Transformations Poetry collaboration, which is going to be part of an exhibition in Norfolk in 2014 and also be turned into a book. The theme is Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses. More details of that as and when I find out.
>>>>
So on that fine note I shall bid you farewell. Oh, and here is another one of my pictures lit up by the UV light! This one is called Pink Rock!

“Well here it is. Time to reveal the little twist to my art work. If you haven’t guessed already then, with no further ado…..

The neons that I paint with are actually neon UV paint. They glow under a flourescent UV blacklight! This means that all my pictures are two in one.

I have taken photos of Galaxy 14, Twisted Heart and Atomic number 10  to show you how different the pictures look with and without the UV light. Personally, I like them best with the UV lighting as they glow so brightly.
>>>>>

I haven’t seen many other artists use this concept, and my art is unique in the fact that I use these paints in every one of my pictures.
 >>>>
I love that they can all be seen in a completely different light! Literally!
 >>>>
I am currently working on a few more pictures (one being my collaboration with the lovely poet Nat Hall). Once these are finished, then I will be sending my portfolio out. I am having a few problems with my internet at the moment, but it should be completed very soon including my new pictures.
 >>>>
Anyway, I wanted to share my little twist  with ArtiPeeps first. I hope you like them!
